CH FOOTHILL FELINES SHEERA KHAN
OF GLIMMERMERE (SOUTH AFRICA)!!
Lillian van As wrote us a couple of days after Sheera Khan arrived in Johannesburg, to update us: "Sheera arrived safely at Johannesburg. She is a lovely little girl and was worth the long wait. She was very quiet throughout the car ride. I stayed with friends of mine in Johannesburg so that Sheera could have a days break before she flew to Durban. She is extremely lovable and friendly. Once she had settled down she was anxious to make friends with everyone. She head-butted me and nozzled my face, which I found fascinating as the Russians are known to head butt you as a sign of affection. I was surprised to find Sheera doing the same.
"Friday night she did not want to sleep - she decided it was playtime. She eventually fell asleep under the blanket on my stomach. Saturday morning she was cute. She fell asleep with her head on my arm, lying flat on her back with all four legs in the air purring loudly in my ear. She took the flight to Durban rather calmly. My Russians and my Abys have been trying to meet her but I have separated them for now. My two Russians and two Abys managed to get past me when I fed her and she was rather intimidated to find four cats trying to catch a look at the new arrival. She is currently in her own room with my hamster. I got her a toy squid and she loves it, she won't go anywhere without her squid."
In March 1999, Lillian told us, "I have some good news!!!
Sheera flew to Cape Town on Tuesday to be mated to "Djinjis". We are all
very excited!! I was going to put her on show in April before her first
mating but she has her own agenda. Her first show last year went very well, she was a bit nervous but overall she displayed a lovely temperament. On the Friday night of the show we had a exhibit on the
various breeds. I was a bit nervous how she would react to all these people looking at her but of course she surprised me. The public were given a run down on the various breeds and the cats were shown to the public. I was a bit nervous when the Persian judge came to get Sheera out of her cage. She was also a bit nervous at first but she laid very calmly in the judge's arm and let the public stroke her. She got a first from the judges for her first three rings but unfortunately when it came to her fourth ring she decided she had had enough and refused to get out of the cage. When the stewards left her, she rolled
over onto her back and went to sleep. The public were cooing over this very cute Bengal that was lying on her back and allowing them to tickle her tummy and head!"
Lillian has done a fabulous job of keeping us updated as the months just keep flying by, but about 2 years later, we received a wonderful package by courier from her complete with many terrific photos of Sheera Khan and the other beautiful cats and kittens of Glimmermere!! "Thank you so much for your quick response I am glad to see my e-mail is working again. I will take some more pictures of Sheera for you this weekend -- you will be very happy to see what a big girl she is. I will keep you updated on all the mews and once again thank you for your continued support and advise -- it is most appreciated." Photos below show Sheera Khan with Lillian, obviously very happy to be part of Glimmermere Cattery in her lovely home in Durban, South Africa.
EXCITING MEWS FROM GLIMMERMERE!! Meet Sheera Khan's handsome new beau Tenaka, and her very first kitten Cenedra, a beautiful spotted lynxpoint snow kitten!! Sheera Khan is proving to be an excellent mother, just like her own mother Marshamelo, and she became a Champion in early 2001!! Lillian wrote: "You will be happy to know that Sheera and Cenedra are doing very well. Cenedra is looking more gorgeous by the day. She is definitely going to be a big girl like her mommy, she is very friendly (everyone that comes to visit us wants to take
her) and she has lots and lots of glitter. Her new mommy Katinka can't wait for her and will be showing her as soon as she comes of age." Below, more great photos from South Africa, of Foothill Felines Sheera Khan of Glimmermere, with beau and baby, and baby Cenedra with Lillian's daughter.
