Marshamelo joined us at Foothill Felines in mid-October, 1996, at 10 weeks of age. She is an absolutely beautiful girl!! Her father is Quad Grand Champion Belltown Challenger of Gogees, and her mother is Gootalah Gala, daughter of Gogees Quasor. Quasor is the F-4 son of Gogees Nitro Glistening famous for producing highly rosetted off-spring. Gala is a half sister to Gootalah Peterbilt of Gogees. That makes our Marshamelo a stunning F-6 SBT, show quality seal lynxpoint snow Bengal. Many, many thanks to her breeder, Gene Ducote of Gogees, for this outstanding girl.
Above, meet Marshamelo's famous sire, QGC Belltown Challenger of Gogees; click on picture for his pedigree. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of her dam, Gootalah Gala of Madaas.
Just look at baby Marshamelo imitating her daddy!! The first thing Marsha did upon her arrival after a long day of air-travel from Louisiana to California, was to show us how glad she was to be in her new home!! No hiding for her; she was instantly rubbing against us, purring, and showing us her perfect eating and litterbox habits. She has an exceptionally soft and velvety pelt, with lots of glitter and gold, rosetted spots on her dramatic white snow Bengal background.
Marsha is a "seal lynx-point Bengal", which was the first snow Bengal produced. Gene Ducote and Bob Dundon are generally given most of the credit, richly deserved, for developing the snow Bengal color genetics and pioneering the addition of this type of Bengal into the TICA Bengal breed standard. Marsha's type of snow Bengal, the seal lynxpoint, is the only type of Bengal to have blue eyes as an adult. These snow Bengals are born white, with gold markings usually showing up anywhere from a few days after birth to 6 months after birth, due to the colorpoint gene. Marsha is QUITE the talker, enjoying lengthy discussions around the television with her human (and kitten) family. She is also very smart, a wonderful, devoted mother, and was very much a beloved part of our family!!
Our wonderful Marshamelo gave us ten fantastic litters while she was here, and she was instrumental in teaching us so much about breeding these amazing cats. Homozygous for the spotted pattern, Marsha never did produce any marbles; all her kittens were beautiful spotted babies. Marsha often would take on other kittens, in addition to her own, and while I would assist with the bottle-feeding, she was content knowing we were raising these babies together. She is the mother of Foothill Felines Metallica (from her first litter), and the mother of QCH Foothill Felines Mochamelo (from her last litter)!! We will always have a special place of honor in our hearts for dear Marsha.
