FOOTHILL FELINES MOHAWK!!

Brown rosetted leopard spotted Bengal male with tons of color, glitter & beautiful type at 6 weeks old!

"Mohawk" is a spectacular rosetted male Bengal kitten born in the Fall of 2004 to Serrano MaiTai of Foothill Felines and Simbaspride 'Major' Mews of Foothill Felines. Rose Meros had contacted us just 5 days after this litter was born, explaining that she and her husband Dave were ready to add a very special kitten to their home and family. Rose wrote: "Holly, My husband and I are avid cat lovers, but until a couple years ago, our careers required frequent travelling and were not conducive to caring for pets. We moved from Los Angeles to the Sacramento area a few years ago to be near my parents, as I had health issues. Now with a home-based career, and parents who recently lost their own cat to old age, we are looking to acquire a Bengal cat. I had heard that they were less allergenic, as they have "hair" rather than fur. This may be a wives tale, however. I have no cat allergies, but my husband who had cats too, throughout his childhood, was once allergic to cats. As we always befriend our neighbors cats, and he's exhibited no allergic symptoms, we are wanting to have a cat again. My retired parents live only a few blocks away from us, and they would love to care for our new cat while we vacation."

"My husband Dave is tour manager and bassist for Eric Burdon and the Animals, and although he does frequently tour, I am always home now, and want the companionship of a cat. We don't know how an older cat would adapt to new environs, but we would welcome either an older "retired" breeder, or a young kitten. Most importantly, we love affectionate cats. We give lots of love and treat animals with utmost respect and care. Our computer screensavers are photos of our neighbor's "white tiger" cat Quincy!"

We had Rose and Dave come over to see our cattery and meet all our cats and kittens, and they were such great sports!! We had over 20 kittens at that time, all of them under 5 weeks old!! After looking at the parents and the baby kittens carefully, Rose and Dave proceeded to pick out an exceptionally handsome little boy in our youngest litter. They then came over to visit their little kitten often as he was growing up, both to bond with him (they immediately named him "Mohawk") and also to see how Dave's allergies would do around him and in our cattery environment. Finally, the big day came, and lucky Mohawk was able to join his new family in their home. We received some wonderful update pictures and e-mails from Rose and Dave about their first month together.

Dave wrote: "Hi Holly, Happy New Year! Mohawk is doing great ... one month with us. Attached are a couple photos of the little guy. He is in his wildman stage, playing really hard and then sleeping and also eating tons of food. He's growing really fast and really curious about everything. I've included a couple recent photos that show off his exotic coat. He's taken a really big interest in computers, so there are a couple cute ones of that, too. One of them is him looking at himself on screen as I'm re-sizing one of his photos. Also, him checking out Home Shopping Network with Rose."

"My allergies are absolutely non-existent. I can't believe it, really. I'm sure that I have just developed some natural immunity to my allergy in the last few years, and also being around Mohawk a lot has allowed my body to adjust to him. But also I think he's just not very allergenic due to his unique Bengal coat. The only time I feel anything at all is when he accidentally scratches me. Then I get a little itching in that immediate area, but that's it."

"We have him trained to fetch! He won't do it 100% of the time, but most of the time we can throw his little mouse across the room and tell him to get the mouse. He will just chase it down, pick it up in his mouth and carry it back just like a dog. Then he drops it at our feet for us to throw it again. It's SO CUTE!! He learned that really fast ... he's very clever, that one ... We're experimenting with trying to get him to poop in the human toilet, but he hasn't quite gotten that one yet. He is interested, but doesn't really know what we're trying to get him to do. We got a little baby's toilet seat adaptor so it would be not so intimidating. I've heard about people training their cats to do that, so I know it's possible. Any suggestions? That would be so cool! Just flush the toilet! Ha!!" Below are photos of Rose and Dave with teeny tiny baby Mohawk when they first picked him out, then as he was growing larger, and the update pictures of a very happy Mohawk in his new home.
